The Scouts had asked to plan and undertake a sea journey in the autumn term of 2014. We spent a couple of weeks teaching the younger Scouts about the 'Rules of the Road' and basic navigation, whilst the PLs and APLs plotted their route on the charts. They decided to head round the back of Portsea Island towards Langstone Harbour and back again, as many of them hadn't explored that way before.

We headed out early in the morning to catch the flood tide and carefully navigated the channels behind Portsea Island under the bridges. At high tide we stopped for our lunch before heading back. Suddenly, the Scouts went silent (an almost unheard of phenomena!) as a seal surfaced and took a good look at us all. Soon it grew bored and swam off, where the Scouts returned to their normal noisy selves. We all got back safe and sound with another tale to add to the collection.
