Joining the Digital Age

Welcome to our website! Recently we decided it was about time that we had our very own web presence. And here it is.

I hope you like the look of it, find it easy to use and see it as a useful tool. At the moment, as you can see, the vast majority of content is from the Sea Scout Section (unsurprisingly, as this is my Section), but we hope the other Sections will start to come on board soon.

Besides forcibly dragging ourselves into the modern age, there are several other advantages to using a website. It saves us time and money by allowing us to publish information instantly to a wide audience, and it looks professional by automatically presenting content in our version of the Scout brand. We can also upload information to complement what we teach on Troop nights, particularly the more theoretical stuff such as navigation and tides.

Now it’s set up, the other Leaders will be writing news and notices, adding their photos from our events and composing interesting articles. So what can you do to help?

Parents and Scouts

Make us a favourite. Please check our home page regularly for news about our events and activities. Not only do we have information about upcoming activities, we also have blogs about past events and interesting articles with information about our Scouting.

Blogs: We do our best to keep the site as up to date and informative as possible, but, equally, we welcome any news stories or articles that Scouts and parents would like to submit.

Our photos: Look out for photos of us in action in the gallery. It can be quite difficult for the leaders to take photos when running activities, so if you have any pictures please send them in so we can add them to the collection.

Feedback: Let us know what you think of our site. We want it to be up to date and as useful as possible, so please let us know if there are any mistakes or something's missing that you think we should include.

Leaders and Helpers

Please keep our site interesting by sending in pictures, news stories and articles about your section.

If you've been set you up with permissions to add to the "News and Notices" then you can post your stories and pictures directly to the site for everyone to see.

Anything you post to the "News and Notices" will automatically appear as a snippet on the home page for everyone to see, but don't let that put you off! You can easily undo any errors by using the 'More actions' button (top right when logged in) to get into the revision history and revert to a previous version of the page.

Always try to add at least one photo or graphic to an article. Not only does it make it more visually appealing, it also appears alongside the snippet on the home page and so drawing people's attention to your story.
