We set off early to catch the tide. Once past the shelter of Portchester Castle, Portsmouth Harbour felt like the open ocean to many of the younger Scouts! They soon fell into the rhythm of the journey, with the pulling crews rowing in time and the kayakers chatting among themselves. The beach opposite Pewit Island was a welcome site as it meant it was lunch time at last! After a quick bite to eat, we set off again. On the way to Pewit Island we practiced some skills and then spied our friends from 2nd Fareham learning to pull their gigs. Before we knew it, we were stepping foot on Pewit Island. We stretched our legs, ate some sweets, then set off for Portchester Castle and home. There was even time to award certificates. Congratulations to all that achieved their PaddlePower Passport, PaddlePower Discover and Go-Row awards! |
